Level 3 - Online Course Description & Process

Course Description

The online version of the UTS Level 1 Power Line Design & Staking course covers the same topics as our classroom version.
Pre-requisite: Successful completion of Power Line Design & Staking, Level 1 & 2               Hours: 21    UTS CEUs: 2.1

In Level 3 Power Line Design and Staking, students will build on the foundation created in the prerequisite courses, Levels 1 and 2 and are introduced to underground line design. Attention is given to understanding how to apply the theories of line design to solve special problems. After completion of this course, participants will be able complete the layout and design of most overhead and underground projects. Students will also understand the physical loads on the distribution system and the associated hardware, read DOT projects, class poles, design for special guying situations, calculate sag and create a stringing chart, and estimate sag on uneven terrain. Course manual provided.

Course Materials

UTS will provide course handbook, and other miscellaneous worksheets and supplies required for this course. This course packet will be mailed to students 1 week prior to course start date. Students need to have access to their own copy of the current, 2017 National Electrical Safety Code (NESC) book.

Instructor

A UTS instructor will be assigned and available via email (and phone, by appointment), as needed, during the course access dates.

The Course Process

Quizzes
: Students will be given opportunity to demonstrate understanding of material from handbook, worksheets, reading supplements and NESC by completing weekly online quizzes. Quizzes will consist of T/F, multiple choice, and short answer questions.
